Musée Yves Saint Laurent Marrakech: Tickets, Hours & the Combo Question

The YSL Museum sits right next to Jardin Majorelle and uses the same online ticketing. Here is what it costs, when it is closed, and whether the combined ticket makes sense for you.

Closed on Wednesdays. This catches people out every week: they book Majorelle for a Wednesday, walk next door and find the museum shut. If you want both, pick any other day.

Opening hours

  • Thursday to Tuesday: 10:00 – 18:30, last entry 18:00.
  • Wednesday: closed.
  • Ramadan: shorter hours, usually closing around 16:00–17:00; check the booking calendar.
  • The temporary exhibition hall closes for a few weeks between shows (recently in summer); the permanent collection stays open.

Note the museum opens at 10:00 while the garden opens at 8:00. The classic plan is garden first thing, breakfast at the garden café, museum at 10:00.

Combo ticket or museum only?

The combined ticket covers the garden, the Berber Museum inside it and the YSL Museum, with separate time slots for each. It saves around 20 MAD versus buying separately and, more usefully, draws from its own availability pool: when the garden-only ticket shows sold out, the combo often still has slots.

Buy the combo if you are doing both on the same day. Buy the museum alone if you already have a garden ticket, or if you are coming back on a different day. There is no discount for visiting on separate days.

What you actually see

  1. The building. Designed by Studio KO, opened in 2017. Terracotta bricks laid in a pattern meant to look like fabric. The façade and the courtyard are free to see and photograph.
  2. The permanent hall. A dark, 400 m² room with around 50 garments from the Fondation's 5,000-piece archive, rotated regularly, arranged by theme (Morocco, Africa, the tuxedo, the colour palette). Short films and sketches explain the context.
  3. The temporary exhibition. Changes two or three times a year: photographers, Moroccan artists, fashion history. Included in the ticket.
  4. Café, bookshop, auditorium. Le Studio café is one of the better lunch spots in Gueliz and does not require a ticket. The bookshop has the best selection of books on Moroccan design in the city.

Things nobody tells you

  • No photos inside the galleries. Staff enforce it. Courtyard and café are fine.
  • Lockers are free and you must use them for anything bigger than a small handbag.
  • It is air-conditioned, which matters in summer: do the garden early and save the museum for the hottest part of the day.
  • The queue outside is for ticket scanning, not for buying tickets. You cannot buy at the door.
  • Combine with a walk down Rue Yves Saint Laurent to the Berber Museum, or a 10-minute taxi to Gueliz's cafés and galleries. Majorelle is covered in our Majorelle guide.

YSL Museum: frequently asked questions

Is the YSL Museum included in the Majorelle ticket?

No. They are two separate buildings with two separate tickets. The official site sells a combined ticket (Garden + Berber Museum + YSL Museum) for roughly 300–330 MAD, which is about 20 MAD cheaper than buying both separately and saves you a second queue.

Can I buy YSL Museum tickets at the door?

No. Like the garden, the museum is online-only with timed slots via tickets.jardinmajorelle.com. The museum is less often sold out than the garden, so same-day booking on your phone usually works, but weekends in high season can still fill up.

Is the YSL Museum worth it if I am not into fashion?

Honestly, it depends. The building by Studio KO is worth seeing from outside for free. Inside, the permanent collection is a rotating selection of about 50 haute couture pieces in a dark, theatrical hall, plus a temporary exhibition, an auditorium and a very good café. Fashion fans love it; others find 45 minutes enough. If you are on a tight budget, do the garden and skip the museum.

Can I take photos inside the YSL Museum?

No photography in the exhibition halls. Photos are fine in the courtyard, the café and outside the brick façade, which is the shot everyone wants anyway.

Which day is the YSL Museum closed?

Wednesday, every week. It also closes on a few public holidays and during the annual maintenance period, which the official site announces in advance. Plan your Majorelle visit on a day other than Wednesday if you want to do both.
