No booking needed. Unlike Majorelle, you can simply walk in. The only decision is whether to pay the extra 40 MAD for the tower (yes, on a clear day).

What you see
- The Exotic Garden. The first courtyard: plants from five continents arranged around a water channel. Smaller, busier, more colourful.
- The Islamic Garden. The main event: a classic four-part garden (chahar bagh) with olive trees, grasses, lavender and a central fountain, restored to the 19th-century layout. The photo at the top of this page.
- The pavilions. Two restored palace rooms with an exhibition on the garden's hydraulics: the khettara (underground canal) that still feeds the fountains from the Atlas.
- The tower. Separate ticket, narrow stairs, 360° view: both gardens, the Koutoubia, the Ben Youssef minaret and the mountains.
- Café and shop. The café terrace over the Islamic Garden is the best quiet coffee in the souks. Prices are high for Marrakech (tea 35 MAD) but you pay for the silence.
Getting there
- From Jemaa el-Fna: 10 minutes north via Rue Mouassine. The entrance is a wooden door at number 121 with a small sign; easy to walk past.
- From Ben Youssef Medersa: 8 minutes west. The two together make a good hour and a half.
- Taxi: cannot reach it. Nearest drop-off is Bab Laksour or Jemaa el-Fna.
Things nobody tells you
- It is the quietest place in the Medina. Use it as a decompression stop between souk sessions, not as a sight to tick off.
- Afternoon light is warmer on the Islamic Garden; morning is emptier. Both work.
- Accessible at ground level, which almost nothing else in the Medina is. The tower is not.
- Toilets are clean and free, which in the souks is worth knowing.
- Combine with the Ben Youssef Medersa, the Mouassine fountain and the Dar el Bacha (Bacha Coffee) five minutes away.
Le Jardin Secret: frequently asked questions
How much is Le Jardin Secret?
100 MAD full price, 80 MAD for visitors up to 24, 50 MAD for Moroccan citizens, free under 12. The tower is an extra 40 MAD. Buy at the entrance or online on the official site; both cost the same.
Is the tower worth the extra 40 MAD?
Yes if the sky is clear. It is the highest accessible point in the Medina and the only place where you see the whole garden from above, plus the Koutoubia and the Atlas. Children under 6 are not allowed up. Skip it on a hazy day.
Majorelle or Jardin Secret?
Different things. Majorelle is bigger, bluer, more famous and requires booking days ahead. Jardin Secret is smaller, calmer, in the middle of the souks and you can walk in. If Majorelle is sold out, this is the best consolation; if you have time, do both.
Do I need to book Le Jardin Secret in advance?
No. It very rarely sells out. Online tickets exist mainly to skip the (short) cashier queue. Walk in any time.
How long do you need?
45 minutes to an hour, including the tower and a mint tea in the café. It is one of the few places in the Medina where sitting down for half an hour is the point.
