Short answer: if you can get a Majorelle slot at 8:00 or after 15:30, go: it is the one everyone remembers. If the dates you want are sold out, or you hate crowds, Le Jardin Secret is not a consolation prize; many visitors prefer it. Check Majorelle live availability before deciding.

Jardin Majorelle in brief
Created by the painter Jacques Majorelle from the 1920s, rescued and restored by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé, now run by their foundation. Bamboo, palms, cactus beds, lily ponds and the cobalt-blue studio that gave a colour its name. The Pierre Bergé Berber Museum inside the villa is small and excellent.
- The catch: tickets are sold only at tickets.jardinmajorelle.com, for a 30-minute entry slot. People with no ticket get turned away. Watch out for "helpers" offering tickets at the gate.
- Best time: 8:00 slot, or after 15:30 for softer light and fewer people.
- Add the YSL Museum next door if fashion interests you (closed Wednesdays): YSL Museum tickets.
Le Jardin Secret in brief
A 19th-century palace complex behind a plain door on Rue Mouassine, restored and opened in 2016. Two gardens: an exotic garden with plants from around the world, and a classic four-part Islamic garden with olive trees and a central fountain, fed by the old underground canal system. The tower gives the best accessible view in the Medina.
- No booking: walk in, 100 MAD, pay +40 MAD for the tower on a clear day.
- Best time: opening at 9:30, or the last hour before closing.
- Pairs perfectly with the Ben Youssef Medersa (8 minutes away) and the souks.

Majorelle vs Jardin Secret: frequently asked questions
Which is better, Jardin Majorelle or Le Jardin Secret?
Majorelle is the icon: the electric-blue villa, the cactus garden, the Berber Museum and the YSL Museum next door. Le Jardin Secret is the calmer, more authentic garden in the middle of the souks, with the best rooftop view in the Medina. For a first visit, Majorelle if you can get a slot; Jardin Secret if you cannot, or if crowds spoil things for you. With two days, do both: see the 2-day itinerary.
Can I visit both on the same day?
Easily. Majorelle at 8:00 (1 hour), taxi to the Medina (20–40 MAD), then Le Jardin Secret any time after it opens at 9:30. Total entries: 270 MAD, or 310 MAD with the Jardin Secret tower.
Is Le Jardin Secret a good alternative when Majorelle is sold out?
The best one. It is a walk-in garden (no booking), 100 MAD, rarely crowded, and the Islamic garden and tower view are genuinely beautiful. Before giving up on Majorelle, though, try the late slots and the combo ticket: Majorelle sold out? What works.
Which is better for photos?
Majorelle for the colour: the blue villa, yellow pots and cactus beds are the most photographed spot in Morocco, but you will queue for a clear shot after 9:30. Le Jardin Secret for calm compositions without people and for the view from the tower over the Medina rooftops to the Koutoubia and the Atlas.
Which is better with children?
Both are short and stroller-friendly on the main paths. Majorelle is free under 10 (still needs a booking); Jardin Secret is free under 12, but under-6s cannot climb the tower. Jardin Secret wins on calm and on its central location; Majorelle wins on goldfish, turtles and colour.
